Character consistency across images, 3D and video
From the OpenDrama Create Wiki
A model doesn't remember your character. Every generation starts from noise and rebuilds a face from whatever you hand it, so a character described only in words comes back slightly different each time: the jaw softens, the scarf changes shade, the scar moves to the other cheek. Over 40 images or 20 clips, that adds up to a different person.
Consistency isn't a prompt trick. It's a small production system: one approved master design, the same identity information handed to every tool in the form that tool reads best, and a check on every output before it enters the edit. This page sets it up for 2D images, a 3D hero model built once and reused in every scene, and AI video.
When to use it
Use it whenever the same character appears in more than a handful of outputs, or in more than one medium:
- A game protagonist in concept art, a 3D model or sprites, UI portraits and the trailer.
- A recurring cast in a short drama, where viewers notice when the lead's face changes between episodes.
- A mascot or brand character that has to survive months of new images.
- Picture books, comics and storyboards with one character in 10–30 panels.
Skip most of it for one-off shots, background extras, and pieces where identity doesn't carry the story.
Each medium holds identity in a different place:
| Medium | What carries identity | Typical drift |
|---|---|---|
| 2D images | reference images + a fixed identity block | face shape, hair parting, small costume details |
| 3D | one hero model file, reused everywhere | regenerating per scene, scale and material changes |
| AI video | an approved first frame + reference features | face softens over the clip, after head turns, in wide shots |
The rule across all three: identity comes from one approved master, never from the previous output. A copy of a copy loses a little each time, so every new shot anchors back to the master.
